Our Paper & the Environment

The majority of CQ’s paper comes from either sustainable tree farms or recycled sources.
In other words, “No natural habitats were harmed in the making of our print”

What Makes our Paper Eco Friendly?

  • We buy paper that is legally harvested from sustainable tree farms.
Look for Chain of Custody Certifications.
  • All of our paper is whitened using non toxic chemicals.
Look for ECF (elemental chlorine free), TCF (totally chlorine free) or PCF (process chlorine free).
  • We purchase our paper from environmentally responsible companies
Look for papers produced by mills with Environmental Management Systems certifications such as EMAS (Eco-Management Audit System) or ISO14001.
  • We offer both recycled papers and papers from sustainable virgin fibre.
Look for papers with recognised Eco Labels such as Nordic Swan, Triple Green and Blue Angel. Refer to our CQ Paper Guide below for our eco credentials on the main papers we stock.

Facts about the Paper Industry

“There aren’t many industries around that can aspire to becoming genuinely sustainable. The paper industry, however is one of them; it is inherently sustainable.” – Jonathan Porritt, Chairman UK Sustainability development commission and founder Forum for the Future.

Around 70% of paper is recovered and fed back into the paper making process worldwide. In New Zealand, this figure is 58% (our aim is to help increase this percentage in New Zealand).

Paper isn’t made from ‘roundwood‘ or logs. Paper is made from all the wood offcuts and scraps left behind by the timber industry.

Paper production supports sustainable forest management. It’s estimated there are 25% more trees in the developed world today than at the beginning of the 20th century. In Europe alone forests are increasing by an area equivalent to more than 1.5 million football pitches annually.
